Ten Things of Thankful - Week 11, 2017

A nice quiet Saturday morning here, the sun is shining brightly through the window, and I'm ready to get my thankful on...

I am thankful that my mind and body are adjusting to the time change, it takes a few days.  At first I had trouble falling asleep and woke up groggy, but this morning I was awake when my husband got up to get ready for work, and I didn't fall back to sleep.  I've noticed that my furkid's internal clocks adjusted more quickly than mine, and within three days they knew when it was suppertime and were giving me that telepathic stare that says "Step away from the keyboard and feed us!" :-) Their ability to sense time without the concept of a clock, amazes me.  How do they do that?

I am thankful that Spring officially begins on Monday!  Spring is my favorite season and I need to get some flowers for the flower box to celebrate!  It is already hot here, 88 yesterday and more of that is promised for today.  I will not be thankful for the stifling heat of summer, no I will not, but I will be thankful that we have AC and I can stay inside  during the heat of day. :-)

I am thankful for all the positive feedback I've received for my first attempt at serial story writing on my other blog, and that I was able to draw it to a cofortable conclusion.  This coming week will be Part XX - an epilogue, to bring it full circle.  Writing a story with just six sentences a week and a prompt to fit in, is a challenge, but I discovered that I liked doing  it and will probably start another after the A-Z Challenge.

I am thankful for the new shoes my daughter sent me.  Those who know me also know that I rarely buy shoes, only replacing a pair when they wear out.  It's just not something that I am drawn to. I have two feet, I need two shoes for walking and another pair for casual wear around the house, period.  I also have very wide feet and I love GoWalks, but they are difficult to find in WW sizes in anything but boring colors like gray.  She found a new pair my size on eBay in a beautiful seafoam green, and they fit perfectly.  They make me smile! :-)

I am thankful that I am almost done with my crocheted Spring wreath and will assemble it today. I bought the yarn for it a year ago with good intention.  I always have good intentions to start a new craft project and finish it but rarely do, so I finally began working on it and found it went quickly.  I haven't actively crocheted in years, and I am happy to set my keyboard aside and do something creative. Papa Bear is wanting a lap afghan, I found some beautiful yarn for it, and will begin working on it in the evenings, when I can relax with the repetition of stitches and visit and watch tv with him.  My furkids find wiggly yarn much more fun to "help" with than my Surface tablet! Their "help" with that mainly consists in running across the keyboard as if it's a bridge from the end table to my husband's lap. :-)

I am thankful that my daughter and son-in-law returned safely from their wedding/honeymoon in Hawaii and are busy looking for an apartment or house in Dallas, once she gets her home in Nashville on the market and sold, prayers appreciated!  She had a wonderful time in Hawaii and got to experience snorkeling for the first time; she loves fish, so she was in total awe!

I am thankful that my relationships with both of my sisters are vastly improved over what they used to be.  We have each learned not to push each other's buttons, and to tread more lightly with our comments.  I have also learned to tone down my opinionated preaching and just listen.  That's a challenge for me, and I am thankful that I am beginning to make a little progress.

I am thankful for my husband's laughter and sense of humor.  I tend to take life too seriously, and he has retained his childlike playfulness, that never fails to draw me in and have me laughing too. When he laughs, or does silly voices, or makes a goofy joke, his Irish eyes truly smile, and it's so contagious!  I have lived with spouses who were grumpy 90% of the time, and to have this joy in my life and home now is such a blessing!

I am thankful for the kind-hearted man my son has grown up to be.  He is taking his girlfriend and her son to visit her father in another state this weekend, since it is Spring Break for her son.  My son has planned activities and places to stay which will surely delight a seven year old, and I've noted that on the weekends they are together he also makes sure that they do kid-friendly activities. I am so very proud of him, he is a good and caring man.

I am both thankful and excited that two weeks from today we will be on our road trip, and I managed to find a nice house to rent right on the beach and within our budget for three days, so I will have my toes in sand, fresh seafood to eat, saltwater to breathe, sunrise and sunset over the ocean to watch from the 3rd story deck, and the sound of waves lulling me to sleep at night.  I can't wait!

Bonus thankful... for a relatively peaceful life... quiet days, positive relationships, time to breathe, and wonderful connections to people around the world via the Internet. I am truly grateful for the life I've been given! :-)

Blessings to you in the week ahead! Keep your eye out for reasons to be thankful, and remember to be a blessing to someone else!

    1. They did indeed look almost to beautiful to be real, Jo! I hope to find out in person some day. :-) Having a serious side is good, but balance is important and my husband never fails to make me laugh. We even got into a cake fight at a restaurant once, with crumbs flying back and forth! We were laughing so hard that I expected to be ejected, and of course we cleaned up our mess, but it was fun! :-)

    1. Like any family, we have our concerns, but there is a prevailing sense of peace and contentment that means the world to me, there is no place I would rather be than here in my little house with Papa Bear and my furkids! I can count on all of them to make me laugh!

    1. So true, Val, and it is the people and the experiences we share that make life good, the rest is all just either noise or frosting on the cake depending on which side of the table it is. :-)

  6. I don't always get projects finished in a timely manner. I have an afghan waiting to be sewn together...it's been years in the making. You are very blessed with your family and it is delightful to hear about them. Still cool here but the high temps are on the way!

    1. It took me five years to complete an afghan for my sister once, Patricia, but she loved it when she finally received it! My family is a great blessing to my life, and I know what a gift they are! We have been in the high 80's and even low 90's here already, it's a little much so soon, but I will take it over feet of snow! :-)

    1. Thank you, Skipper! I do keep busy, just in a much more relaxed manner than in years past, and I so appreciate that I can slow down a bit and do things that I enjoy. I am very much looking forward to our vacation getaway, and I've loved following along with yours via your photos, it's so much fun to see what other people are doing! I'd love to take that train trip up the coast some day! :-)

    1. All the components of the wreath are finished and waiting for me to put it together. I've just been caught up in other projects these past few days, but it will happen today or tomorrow and I will most definitely share a photo here and on Facebook. It's been a fun project, and I have supplies to begin another. I will pass your congrats and wishes on to my daughter, thank you!

  9. It does take time to adjust to the time change. Like you, I am amazed at how accurate animal's internal clocks are. Drexel always gives me the "starved puppy look" at the same time every day, too!

  10. Aw, I love the feeling of warmth when the sun shines through a window.

That trip of yours sounds so relaxing and fun. Looking forward to it for you.

Laughter definitely is the best way to let go of any serious side you might have.

Thanks again for hosting this TToT thing here.
