Ten Things of Thankful - Week 7, 2017

The weekend is fast disappearing and I haven't gotten my thankfuls for the week shared yet, so it's time to get started...

I am so very thankful for the good turnout we had last week on our first TToT at the blog site. It was heartwarming to see how many of us find this weekly exercise in gratitude worthwhile and worth sharing!

I am thankful always for Lizzi Lewis who created TToT in the belief that we always have things to be thankful for and that we can uplift each other by acknowledging and sharing them. She is so right about that, and with our posts here we remind her and each other that there are many reasons to realize that our lives are good and we are blessed.

I am most thankful that both my husband and I are hanging in there despite recurring bouts of congestion and flu. Each time we think we are past it one or the other wakes up feeling sick again, but it seems at this point that both of us are finally headed in the right direction. So many people have struggled with various bugs lately, and I'm hoping that we can all move on to being more healthy in the weeks and months ahead!

I am thankful for lavender microfiber bed sheets my daughter gave me for my birthday, they are so incredibly soft, pure luxury.

I am thankful for the beautiful coffee table book of South Dakota places that my son gave me. Although I haven't lived there since I was 22, South Dakota will always be home to me, and it's fun to revisit familiar places that are shared in the book.

I am thankful that our income taxes have been filed, and the refund was in our bank account on Thursday. Money we can put to good use.

I am thankful for tentative plans to take a short trip later in March before the weather gets hot. Our last trip anywhere was in June when we went to the mountains in Southern Colorado, such a beautiful place!

I am thankful for the lessons God is teaching me each day, most notably not to panic when things are stressful, most problems ultimately resolve themselves in a day or two, and larger ones will have ways to deal with them if we remain calm.  Sometimes I can almost hear God saying to me... "See, I told you I was taking care of things!"

I am thankful for the rescuers... both individuals and groups, who take in abandoned, neglected, abused, and injured animals and give them hope and new lives.  This surely is doing God's work here on earth, taking care of His innocent ones.  The effect that love has on healing is truly amazing!

I am thankful always for the freedom we have to speak, write, and believe as our hearts and minds lead us.

I believe that if we remember to trust God, live honestly and uprightly, treat each other with kindness and compassion, and take care of the earth in our custody, we are going to be okay.

Peace and blessings to you in the week ahead!

    1. Always Carin! That's something that will never change in my life. I remember what it was lie to live without it.

    1. Thank you, Mimi. I've found it's what works for me. South Dakota is pretty in it's simplicity. East side of the state is farm country, west side is ranch country, two very different cultures. The Black Hills area is beautiful!

  3. I hope that you and your husband are able to soon fight off that bug! It is amazing how something as simple as the right kind of bed sheets can improve one's quality of life. To keep the thought in mind that "things will work out" is very calming to the soul. Do what you can and draw upon those last lines that you shared. Lovely post.

    1. I am feeling pretty good this morning, this will hopefully be the week we both move past it. I love soft sheets, they feel like luxury. I think that if we believe our lives will be ok, no matter what comes up that we need to deal with, they will. Attitude is so important. I just refuse to live my life in fear!

  4. I was thinking about those sheets, too. Lavender as in color or in scent. Both are good for a decent night's sleep. I have to say, I prefer cotton to microfiber - they slide too much for me. When things are stressful, which lately they are, I remind myself to "let go and let God". And breathe. Sometimes I forget to take those deep breaths that cleanse and relax us.

    1. Our bedroom is a pretty shade of lavender, Val. It is peaceful. Microfiber is so soft, love it in winter. May switch to the cotton ones in the heat of summer, though our nights here cool down pretty well. It isn't easy to learn to Let Go, Let God, but it is the answer, and it is the only way we can live in peace. There are many things in life we have no control over and we have to accept that. What matters is how we deal with what comes, breathing helps! :-)

  5. "See, I told you I was taking care of things!" Absolutely. I see that to be true over and over again in my life. The challenge, I suppose, is not to rest too easy and expect all to be well with no effort on my part. Or to forget to be grateful.
Glad you and Papa Bear are on the mend - definitely!

    1. That's where the balance comes in, Lisa... trust is the bird that flies, effort is the left wing and gratitude the right. The bird can't soar without both of these! It is nice to wake up feeling like myself again, and I hope you are on the road to recovery too! <3

  6. Good to hear the "bug" is about gone from your home. Your kids gave you such thoughtful gifts! You are right, trust God and all is well.

    1. We are very thankful to be finally recovered too, Patricia, it's been difficult start out the year with so much sickness, but still we are talking about minor inconvenience compared to what many deal with on a long-term basis. My children are wonderful gift givers, my furkids are still enjoying all the boxes that arrived at my house during birthday week thanks to them! We keep Amazon wish lists to help each other choose things that might be nice to have. Trust does not come easily to me, but God continues to show me that He is worthy of my feeble trust.

  7. Ugh, flu. Hope it's leaving. Spring is soon here.
I love coffee table books. So beautiful. Those sheets sound amazingly luxurious too.
You are most correct about this new TToT environment and the right to write and say what we feel we need to. That is invaluable.

    1. Thankfully, we are both feeling so much better now, what a relief! I am not very good about being sick, it makes me grouchy. :-) I received awesome birthday gifts, the very best being the love of family and friends! Blogging has been a lifesaver for me, free therapy and wonderful friends made in the process! This is the one place I always feel that I can be fully myself, and I treasure that!

  8. I've worked on taxes, but haven't finished them yet. I think you just helped motivate me to get them done!

    1. It feels good to be done with it, and even better if there's a refund involved! For us, just breaking even is counted as a win, so anything over that is a blessing.
