Last evening at sunset my daughter and her finance were married on the beach in Hawaii! She flew from Nashville to Dallas where he lives, on Tuesday, and on Thursday they flew to LAX and then on to Hawaii. Though there were lengthy flight delays, it all went fine, and her packed wedding dress arrived amazingly wrinkle free. Needless to say, it is beautiful there! Their elopement wedding went perfectly as planned, just the two of them and the officiant, and many congratulations from everyone they encountered on their way to and from the beach. It will be a few days before they get their photographs from the photographer, but I do have a picture of the little wedding cake we ordered for them from The Cake Shop there in Honolulu. It turned out beautifully and both of them declared it delicious!
I am thankful for my son, her brother, who also lives in Nashville and is stopping by daily to do kitty care for her two cats in her absence. She has security cams in her house and was happy to see him on the floor playing with them this morning!
Another big thankful this week... storms with high winds and tornadoes moved through the Midwest this week, and my niece's house sustained $30,000 in damage to her siding and roof, but thank God, it held together in the storms, and kept her and her five furids safe, though there wasn't much sleep for a couple nights. Some houses in the area were hit much worse. I am thankful for insurance too.
I am thankful that I was able to help my older sister get her Facebook page back on track. She'd gotten some bad advice from well meaning friends and had created two new ones in recent months, but ended up locked out of one and having technical issues with the other. I was able to help her get back to her original page and get everyone notified, so she is a happy camper. Tech savy she is not (nor am I), and Facebook is her way of keeping in touch with friends, as it is mine.
I am thankful for the jar of delicious Maple Cream a dear friend sent us this week. I'd never heard of it or tasted it, and she was telling me about it. So she sent some for us to try, and my husband quickly proclaimed it wonderful stuff. I agree! I have the most thoughtful friends!!!
I am thankful for the wonderful time my younger sister and her husband had in Florida last week. It is a real treat for them to get to enjoy some warm sand and sunshine during the long South Dakota winter. They relaxed and had fun, and took my nephew who also needed a break from his job. Sometimes having time alone with just one child or the other is awesome, more sharing!
I am thankful for people who help furkids by fostering or finding them good homes. Our wonderful Zoe helped find a new home for a gorgeous little kitty now named Mitzi, and transported her for a spay, so there won't be more uncared for kittens in the world. Anyone who loves animals holds a place in my heart. My daughter is feeding the birds in Hawaii! I always tease her that wherever she lives the birds become so heavy they can barely fly! She carries bird food and pet food in her car, and dishes to fill with bottled water. :-) My niece is a foster mom for adoptable pit bulls, and always has an extra furkid at her house learning socialization skills and manners.
As always, I am thankful for my beloved husband because he takes an interest in the things I do, whether it's what I'm writing or crocheting, something a friend shared on Facebook, or a new recipe to try. I am blessed that we are best friends, and not just living in the same house as I've experienced in the past. I am thankful he loves furkids too! He had a cat before I met him that lived to be 20 years old, and it was an inside/outside cat, so that's really incredible. He puts up with all the cat fur floating in the house since all of ours have long fur, and at least one of them is parked on his lap in the evenings, and one is hanging over his shoulder from the back of the loveseat.
I am thankful and very excited that three weeks from today we will be headed out for a week long road trip. Not going too far, but to some place we haven't been so that will be fun! Will keep you posted on the journey. :-)
I am thankful for having enough. We don't have a lot, we don't have too little... we get by ok, and that is such an incredible blessing, not to have to worry every day. How I wish everyone could have just enough... if those who had way too much shared more, they would!
Blessings to you in the week ahead! Keep your eye out for reasons to be thankful, and remember to be a blessing to someone else!

The cake is so pretty I wouldn't want to eat it . . . right away, I mean.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Carin! Though once they cut it the inside looked so good that I would have wanted seconds! :-)
DeleteBest wishes to the happy couple, and i hope the niece can get the house repaired quickly!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mimi! I hope she can too, she is thankful for her tax return so she can afford the insurance deductible!
DeleteOh, Wendy, I love hearing about your family. I'm glad your daughter will be settling in Dallas - she'll be in the same state. It's sweet that her brother is taking care of the furkids so she can relax and enjoy the special time in her life. You know how incredible I think that cake is. See you in the week.
ReplyDeleteI really look forward to her being in Dallas, so much closer! Her brother is a sweetie always has been, and very helpful to his big sister. I was happy that the cake turned out so well.
DeleteWhat a good familial post*
ReplyDeleteRoad Trip! What a true american icon... totally looking forward to trip posts (and photos!)
*in both the actual, 'correct' definition of the word and the definition that I like, which is related to the notion of sharing the worlds (glimpses into their lives and realities) of those close to us.
Last week was largely wrapped up in family, and that was good Clark, though I am looking forward to a little more downtime this week! :-) Road trips are my favorite thing, there are so many amazing things to see and experience in this country. We wish we could do it full time. This time a bit of history review is part of the plan.
DeleteWhat a wonderful list. Congratulations to your daughter and sending positive thoughts that she's able to sell her house soon. You seem to have many people around you who are animal lovers, which is great! I do sometimes think about fostering cats, although we couldn't at the moment as our Charlie isn't too well. But perhaps in the future :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jo! I hope she is able to sell her house quickly too, once she has it ready to put on the market it should do well. It's a beautiful home and she has done a lot of updating. I would love to foster cats too, but with four in our small house there really isn't enough space to make a new one feel comfortable, yes... maybe someday!
DeleteCongratulations to your daughter and her groom. The cake was gorgeous! Even more exciting is that they will be living in Texas. I know you are beyond happy that they will be close enough to visit now and then.
ReplyDeleteWho care for your catkids when you take a holiday? I am sure you wouldn't be going anywhere if they weren't in good hands.
Having enough is enough, isn't it? I may want more than I have but enough is all that I need. It's very freeing to understand this.
Thank you, Patricia! They loved the cake too, especially the 3-D effect of the flowers, the Cake Shop did a wonderful job for us! I can't wait for her to live close enough to meet half-way for a mother/daughter weekend! :-)
DeleteWe have a friend who comes out to provide kitty care and TLC while we are away, but it is still really hard to leave them. It makes coming home sweet though, because I can't wait to see them again!
Yes, the older I get the more I grow content with enough. The mad race to acquire more and more never translates to being more happy, it's about who you have in your life and what you do with your life that matters, as far as material goods, enough is really quite enough!
Congratulations! Thanks for the shout! Mitzi is home and happy, so is your daughter gonna be close enough to visit? And whew!!! ROAD TRIP!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Zoe! I am delighted that you've helped Mitzi find a great loving home, that she is now safely spayed, and will have a wonderful life. Dallas is about five hours away, that's doable for a long weekend, or for us to meet up in Abilene which is about half way. Road trip can't come too soon. We are really ready to escape for a bit, and Papa Bear can really use a break from work, it wears him out. The fun is not planning it too much, just a general idea of where we want to go and let the rest unfold as it comes!
DeleteCongratulations to your daughter! You have had quite the week! That cake you ordered is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kristi! Yes, it sounds like both you and I had busy, involved weeks last week. Hoping we can have some slower days this week. I couldn't have been happier with the way the cake turned out.
DeleteLove hearing all these stories about your family and I love how you take pleasure in the happiness of those you love. You're good people. Congratulations and best wishes for happiness (and house sales) in their new life together!
ReplyDeleteThankful for having enough...yes. Always that.
A wedding in Hawaii sounds like my kind of spot. That cake you sent them sounds like a sweet gesture. I wish the world of those with more and less could be more evened out. It would help, but life's not fair and only in a perfect world would such balance in wealth and prosperity be possible likely.
