Ten Things of Thankful - Week 6, 2017

I had originally planned to write and post this much earlier, but my husband has been home sick with a bad case of flu, so I've been busy tending to his needs and being a bit distracted by the tv and such.  He's settled in with his Kindle book now, so let's see what thankful thoughts I have to share....

First off, I am thankful that Ten Things of Thankful has a new blog home of it's own for us to link up our posts each week.  I've pledged to do a TToT post each week this year.  I hope you'll join me... and bring your blog friends along too!

Next, I am thankful for Lizzi of Considerings, who is the creator of Ten Things of Thankful. No matter what's happening in my life, if I focus on gratitude I soon realize just how many good things I have, and I always end up smiling by the time I get to the end of my list.  Just as the quote above says, it's important to be aware of how blessed we really are at any given moment in our lives.

I am thankful for the blessings of family, friends, and furkids.  It goes without saying that my life would have very little meaning if it wasn't for all the love that surrounds me!

I am thankful always for the faith that sustains me, I am who I am because of what I believe, and because I know that I've been given a purpose for my life.

I am thankful that my husband's illness is only temporary, and although he feels pretty miserable with his aches and fever, I am mindful of the many people I know who are dealing with much more serious medical issues.  They are always in my prayers.

I am thankful for the time I got to spend online with my daughter this week helping her choose just the right dress and accessories for her sunset beach wedding in Hawaii next month.  I am so excited for her!

I am thankful for the wonderful long conversation I had with my son on my birthday, he has always been so kind and loving.  It was fun to hear about his relationship and the plans he has for his future as well.  I am truly blessed to have such awesome kids!

I am thankful for the wonderful surprise gift my husband ordered for my birthday... a set of lighted crochet hooks which will make it so much easier on the eyes, especially in the evenings, as I begin a new project.  I haven't done much crochet lately and I love it, I find the repetition and the soft yarn very soothing. My cats find the wiggly yarn fascinating, and no doubt there will be some cat fur stitched in along with a lot of love!  :-)

I am thankful for all the great reading linked up at Zoe's Six Sentence Stories each Thursday.  I've been working on a serial story for it, a definite creative stretch for me.  I look forward to adding another six sentences to the tale each week.  If you aren't a regular at 6SS, I urge you to check it out... it's fun!

I am thankful for our hot tub, our one and only material luxury, purchased with inheritance money from my father. It's being moved to a concrete pad tomorrow to give us more room on the deck, which will be nice. Nothing soothes old achy bones and a weary soul like a warm soak under a canopy of stars.

Most of all, I am thankful for the life I have now, one I would never have believed possible just ten years ago.  My life story is a lesson to never, ever give up hope.  God has plans in store for you more wonderful than you can possibly imagine!  (Yes, this is #11, it's a bonus blessing :-)

    1. Thank you, Mimi, I always appreciate prayers! Because his fever was running high, we went to the doctor this morning and he prescribed Tamiflu, we will see if it reduces flu symptoms as is claimed.

    1. Thank you, it was a fun birthday! My daughter and her fiancé have waited five years, so I think they are more than ready for this step, and what an amazing place to get married! Number #11 is something I try to share with everyone, we can go through times when life seems so dark and hopeless, but God never abandons us!

  3. News about your daughter's wedding is exciting! Let me know how you like the crochet hooks. I have seen them advertised and wonder about them. Sorry Papa Bear has the flu. Praying he is well again soon.

    1. I am really happy for my daughter, Patricia, she's been living along for a long time now, and that can be lonely when you are young. I have just started playing with the new hooks but I am already impressed by their lightness, they are comfortable to hold and the lighting is enough to let you really see the loops you are working in. You could actually crochet in the dark if for some reason you wanted to! Thank you always for your prayers, I know he will be up and running again before long, I am hoping to avoid catching it!

  4. Hi J J ~~ Yes, you do have a lot to be thankful for. With still room for prayer for continuence of these and then for better for others. I am thinking that sunset beach wedding in Hawaii next month gets you excited for you also, "Mother of the Bride" I assume that you will be there.
Thank you for checking in with my Friday Hunt posts. That is about all that I blog on my 'main blog' these days. This week I am thankful for the nice visit we had with our granddaughter who is going to college in Washington, D.C. She seems to be a wholesome college girl rooted in her studies, campus life, and her three part time jobs.
Also I am thankful for her three roommates. They all seem like nice young ladies who are also very serious about their education.

    1. JJ, I like that! :-) I know beyond a doubt that my life will always be blessed and there will always be things to be thankful for, no matter what comes my way. My prayers are most often for others, God knows my needs well enough. No, we won't be going to Hawaii, it is a second marriage for both of them, a private "elopement" ceremony. I will be happy to hear all about it and see the pictures. I want them to focus on each other that day and enjoy the memory as it is being made, just as John and I did! Hawaii is on my bucket list for someday, maybe. I enjoy your Friday Hunts, always a fun variety of things! It is a good feeling to see grandchildren growing up with their heads on straight and their priorities right. She is keeping busy and will be well-prepared for the real world after graduation. I know you must be very proud of her!

  5. Lizzi did start something wonderful and I am so glad you are hosting the continuation of this life changing blog-hop. I am so happy you got to share in the dress experience with your daughter via the internet. I just can't wait for the time when I go shopping with Meredith for that special dress. I hope Papa Bear is feeling much better by the time you read this and I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday. I have a picture in my mind of you trying to crochet and there might be a cat, not just cat hair entangled in the yarn. lol. Look forward to continuing to link up each week. It feels like maybe a door just opened (that I closed on purpose).

    1. Thank you, Val! I am grateful to Lizzi for giving me permission to adopt her baby. I have very big shoes to fill! I really had fun with my daughter, photos and texts flying back and forth. I am delighted that she is wanting everything to be just right and giving herself enough time to be prepared. She tends to procrastinate like her mother. :-) You and Meredith will make lifetime memories shopping for the dress together, probably not that far down the road from now! Papa Bear is still coughing and congested, but the fever is much lower, and he has kindly passed it on to me... the joys of living in close proximity, we share everything! ;-) My birthday was lovely, warmed by so many fun greetings! John loved the little crocheted basket you made! Yes, yarn and cats tend to go together, and not in a good way for the person crocheting, but very entertaining. Years ago I had one unravel half a crocheted doily once when I left the room for just a moment!! I am glad you are reopening the door to writing/blogging, it's good for the soul, we just have to know where to fit it in to our lives and what lines to draw when it becomes oppressive, as FB has from time to time.

    1. Dear Zoe, I am most definitely a work in progress, and far from perfection, but I am evolving into a person I like much better than the one I used to be! Or more accurately I am slowly scraping away all the dust and dirt that really isn't me! :-) Typhoid Johnny is improving, though still croupy, but he has kindly shared the bug with me. Lovely!

  7. very good list, good for your husband to be on the mend, being ill is no fun, recovering (while not exactly a ride in the park) is much more fun (than being sick( *

    1. Thanks, Clark! Because he has a weakened heart, fevers or any illness are always a concern, but he is doing better now, and will be back at work in a day or two. While feeling miserable, he did find comfort in the extra tlc, and the furkids who came to cuddle. :-)

  8. I've seen those lighted crochet hooks and wondered about how well they would work. It sounds like such a good idea. Blogs that challenge the creative juices are wonderful. The hot tub sounds so inviting. Hope you and your husband continue to mend.

  9. I read this...I know I did. I must not have been able to comment from wherever I was reading. I'm thankful to Lizzi for passing the torch and to you for picking it up. The TToT is a wonderful thing and even though the last few months have found me unable to participate the way I did at one time, I feel very strongly about this little group and am hopeful that this year will allow me to get back in here more often.
So sorry about you and Papa Bear being sick - I hope you are both on the mend and back in action soon.
I love that you could be with your daughter online for such a special task - isn't the internet an amazing thing? To think that something like that is even possible would have been unheard of for families even just 20 years ago.
I'm sure I'm not making a lot of sense here - still feeling rather awful, but I had to get out of bed and get a change of scenery and position and try to connect with someone other than the rest of the flu gang here. :D
