The weariness showed in his eyes and his gait
Nearly fifty years of working and never being late
His journey of life with much hope had begun
Now he was just tired and ready to be done

ReplyDeleteI do too, and I have to look at those eyes every day, it breaks my heart that he still has to work so hard.
DeleteThere are times I feel this way. I am about ready to be done with work there are other ways to spend the days left.
ReplyDeleteI really hope you are able to do that soon,Patricia! I agree, there comes a time when we want to say "enough work" and do the things that we most enjoy.
DeleteOh, nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI see the weariness in my husband's eyes and yet he is driven to continue working. I suppose there comes a time when we all know when the time is to be done. An excellent poem full of emotion.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Val. Mine would gladly be retired if that were possible. His life hasn't been easy, and it appears it won't be for at least awhile.
DeleteSomehow I just read your email from a month ago....not a clue how I missed this....it is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Paul! In 2017 I intend to do more writing here.
